How exactly is the well tempered clavier arranged?? so, you have 24 "songs"?

The Well-Tempered Clavier is composed of preludes AND fugues in all of the tones and semitones (major and minor keys). There are twelve major keys and twelve minor keys, resulting in twenty-four preludes and fugues. Bach decided to write a second set later, also of twenty-four preludes and fugues. Bach never intended to have the preludes and fugues divided. The whole intent of the WTC was to have preludes and fugues that expressed the tone of the specific key, as well-temperament, as opposed to equal temperament, had tonal nuances in consonance and dissonance. The preludes and fugues complement each other, and should stay together, resulting in forty-eight preludes and fugues. It is also important to mention that the prelude and fugue is a compositional form, comprised of two separate forms.
