Guy likes me, i like him, but moving away?

Me and this guy have known each other for quite awhile, everyone has been asking if we were dating and such. We went to the movies, dinner, and banquets together and we like each other. Just recently, he's been ignoring me because he doesn't want to get too "close" to anyone because he is leaving to cali to go to the college he always wanted to go. I've been ignoring him because its obvious he doesn't want our relationship to go any further. However, I really like him and its makes very sad that he doesn't want to talk to me/ keep his distance. What should i do? should i just move on? please help :(
